Film

While I have grown a lot over the past 3 years, these films are what really cemented in my heart that I want to go into a creative industry.

In high school, I joined an upperclassmen filmmaking program called ComAcad. Over those two years, I was part of the creation of over 20 different ads, documentaries, and short films.

Here are a few examples.

Business Killer
Original Short

26 year old business mogul Remy Palmer struggles to navigate the dangerous and seductive world of finance.

In the second semester, every group was given a simple instruction: Make an original short film.

We then spent the rest of the year writing scripts, storyboarding, shooting, editing, and revising the film.

In this film, we were inspired by The Wolf of Wallstreet but also wanted to include some elements of "man on the street" interviews, which you will find towards the beginning of the short.

For Business Killer, my role mostly revolved around scripting, storyboarding, and filming, however we were all involved in every aspect of production.

Town Books
Ad for a local Non-Profit

Town Books is a short film detailing & spreading awareness to the small non-profit of the same name located in San Anselmo, California.

Their goal of giving used and quality books a home is on full display in this promotional short film, with art from the Cedars program adorned throughout.

Town Books strives to be a place in the community that all can use to find peace and quiet while immersed in a good book.

These ads were then aired both on their websites and in our school theater.

We worked with Town Books for about three months, and ended up getting quite close with them. They were very pleased with the end result.

My role was primarily communicating with the client, conducting the interviews, capturing b-roll, and providing feedback during the editing process.

Finding Goblins
Original Short

Casey Andrews is a film student on a mission to learn about the strangest jobs in America. In the pilot episode she is searching Mt. Tam with Ace Caravan and Badger Bludsport when things start to go off track.

Similar to Business Killer, this was made for the Original Shorts project, though Finding Goblins was the following year.

During my senior year, I was a part of every short and hosted the showing, making it one of the most fun experiences of my life.

We followed the same production process as the year prior, however, this was all filmed during a single weekend trip to Santa Cruz with my group.

We wanted to create a parody of reality docuseries like “Finding Bigfoot” or “Deadliest Catch” while also taking inspiration from “The Blair Witch Project.”

During production we all helped across the board, however I had the largest hand in scripting, acting, and editing.

While the film itself has many flaws, I have many fond memories of my time making it, and believe it deserves a spot on my portoflio.

Yes on Prop 1
Ad for a local Non-Profit

For the California Decides project, we were given a proposition on the ballot and a stance to take. It was then in the groups’ hands to research their prop and create a video that would show people the pros and cons of each ballot item. The hope was that it would educate the local community, so they would feel more confident when it came time to vote.

Our group was given the assignment to convince people to vote Yes on Prop 1, which would protect abortion rights in California. We decided to take an emotional approach, showing someone who was anti-abortion becoming swayed as soon as he was the one facing the choice.

It was difficult to fit the whole story arc into our short time limit, but it was quite well received at the showing.

I was a leader and a teacher in all parts of production for this project, as no one else in my group had any prior experience.
